What Is an AI AppSec Agent?

An AI AppSec agent is an AI assistant built into an application security platform that answers questions about your security data in plain language. Instead of filtering dashboards and exporting reports, you ask what to fix first, which apps are affected or what happened at runtime, and the agent answers from your own findings.

The Problem It Solves

Modern AppSec programs produce a lot of data: code findings, mobile and API test results, SBOMs, posture scores and runtime events. The answers teams need are in there, but getting to them takes time. A CISO wants to know whether a newly disclosed vulnerability affects production. A developer wants to know which of forty findings actually matter for the release going out tomorrow. A security engineer wants to know whether last night's spike in blocked attacks targeted one app or many.

As attackers use AI to move faster, the time spent hunting for answers becomes a real risk. An AI AppSec agent shortens the path from question to decision.

What an AI AppSec Agent Does

  1. Answers questions about findings. How many critical issues are open, which apps have them, which ones are exploitable.
  2. Prioritizes.Points to the exploit chain or finding to fix first, with the reason.
  3. Explains runtime events.Summarizes what was detected or blocked in production, where and how often.
  4. Helps with the platform.Explains how to configure a scan, integration or policy.
  5. Shortens reporting.Produces the summary a manager or auditor needs without manual exports.

What to Look For

  1. Grounded in your data. Answers should come from your own findings and events, not generic advice.
  2. Cross-product context. The best answers combine code, app, API and runtime data in one response.
  3. Correct scope and access control. Users should only see answers about the assets they are allowed to see.
  4. Connected to action. An answer about what to fix first is most useful when the fix can be sent to the developer or coding agent from there.

AI AppSec Agents vs. AI Coding Agents

They do different jobs and work best together. An AI coding agent, such as the one in your IDE, writes and changes code. An AI AppSec agent understands your security posture and tells you what needs fixing and why. When the AppSec platform can hand precise remediation to the coding agent, a security question can turn into a merged fix quickly.

The Data Theorem AppSec Agent

The AppSec Agent is part of Data Theorem's closed-loop AI security, alongside AI Exploits, AI Auto-Remediation and AI Active Protection. It is a platform capability, available across Data Theorem products, not a separate product. Teams use it to:

  • Ask about issue and finding counts across apps, APIs and code.
  • Ask what to fix first, using the exploit chains AI Exploits has found.
  • Understand runtime events from Mobile Protect and API Secure.
  • Get help using the Data Theorem portal.

When the answer is a fix, AI Auto-Remediation sends it to your coding agent.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is an AI AppSec Agent?

An AI assistant inside an application security platform that answers questions about your findings, risk and runtime events in plain language.

Does an AI AppSec Agent Replace Security Engineers?

No. It removes the time spent searching and reporting so engineers can spend it on decisions and fixes.

How Is It Different From a Chatbot?

A general chatbot answers from public knowledge. An AppSec agent answers from your own security data.

Is the AppSec Agent a Data Theorem Product?

It is a platform capability available across Data Theorem products.
